What is the difference between elastic and inelastic collisions?

 

The whole kinetic energy has been preserved in elastic collision contrasted to inelastic collision where kinetic energy of the bodies in the beginning and end of collision is distinct. Momentum does not appear to vary in an elastic collision as it does in an inelastic collision.
